Pillars Program
The Three Pillars
The three pillars of this program, wisdom, leadership, and action
empower the many talented, passionate and creative Jewish students
on campus to become, in their own right, pillars of the Jewish community.
Participants embrace these three essential components, which enable
them to reach their true potential as models of Jewish leadership.
Wisdom
Each participant receives a free hour of one-on-one study with a talented,
Jewishly well-versed professional. We match up students with professionals
who are currently working in the field that the student is pursuing
or by personality type.
Students can choose to study any area of Jewish wisdom, be it text,
Hebrew, philosophy, spirituality, holidays, etc. In some cases, where
students are unsure of where they want to focus, the mentors help them
discover their passions.
Leadership
Once a week participants attend a leadership
dinner, honoring………them!
At this dinner two participants address their peers on a Jewish topic
of their choice. They are also addressed by local Jewish leaders, who
speak about their experiences as activists for the Jewish community,
who give them guidance, mentoring and direction as well as an awesome
dinner.
Action
This pillar has two options, new initiatives and established programs.
New Initiatives:
Students who want to establish any type of Jewish activism on campus,
write up a short, ½ page proposal about what their goals for
the program are, and how they intend to go about accomplishing them.
These programs can be any social activism or public lectures that
students feel passionate about, e.g. Holocaust, environmental and
Israel speakers, visits to jails, hospitals, soup kitchens, clothing
and food drives etc. Included in the proposal should be desired attendance,
venue, refreshments and content of the program. Upon approval, the
pillar review board grants funding and technical help to the students,
as well as a stipend to the coordinators.
Established programs:
Students will receive a stipend, technical support and guidance to
use their creativity, passion and talents to enhance already existing
programs. Both those that can be found on this website, and any other
existing Jewish program that is approved by the pillar review board.
